Senior Squids

Hi, I'm LindaJM, a content writer and webmaster. I've been building and designing websites since 1996. Squidoo helped tremendously, not only with income, but in giving me the confidence to call myself a content writer, though it is something I've been doing for years now, even before Squidoo. Now I feel more focused, and have identified niches I feel comfortable writing in.

I was born in 1952 in Oakland, California. I've lived in California my entire life, though I've often thought I'd want to move elsewhere. But no, fate has me still in this state. For the last ten years I've lived in a small town in Northern California called Happy Camp... an old gold rush town that turned into a sawmill town that turned into an artists community.

I have five children, ages 36 to 19. When I'm not working on the web or making Squidoo lenses I write novels (none published yet) and create watercolor paintings, garden, and play guitar.

Hi ~ I'm Sylvia!  I'm a Squidoo Giant 100 Club lensmaster and webmaster of several sites.  Until 2007 when I retired from my "day job," it was all just a part time job to make extra money.  When I arrived at Squidoo, a whole new world opened up for me.  Everyone was kind, friendly and helpful; not what I was used to.  I was hooked & while it took this slow bloomer almost 4 years to reach Giant Top100, I still find new inspiration every day.

After 4 years of retirement, you'd think I'd have the time management issue licked, but I still find way too many fun things to get into, such as my lens-making, knitting, crochet, gardening.  It feels like I have the attention span of a gnat sometimes.

I was born in Laredo, Texas in 1957.  Back then, it wasn't the city it is now!  We moved to Corpus Christi when I was 13 and except for a brief period in Austin, I've lived here ever since.  But now, the North calls.  Sam and I are preparing our home for sale & will be buying a small farm to get all Green Acres with.  We will raise our own vegetables, chickens, goats and perhaps a couple of pigs.  We are SO looking forward  to it!

My girls are married and gone now.  Vikki lives in England with her husband, and Kelly, her husband and 3 sons live nearby in Rockport.  Ah, empty nesting ~ hard at first, but now we're like spoiled teenagers.

My mother lives there in Rockport Texas!! I've never been there, though my sister and brothers go see her occasionally. I've always lived in California. She's the one that moved...

Great job, Linda.

My Squidoo name is Stazjia, my real name is Carol and you can use either. I'm retired because for health reasons and I spend an awful lot of time online, particularly on Squidoo or sites related to Squidoo. I never have enough time for everything I'd like to do. My time management is obviously rubbish.
BTW, I'm English and live in England so I use words like rubbish instead of garbage and I spell the English way instead of the American one. See! I didn't say the right way and not the wrong one! :)

I'm grannysage or Diane. I live in Kansas now but grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I am married to my second husband. We met in a spiritual chat room on the internet. I moved to California (San Diego) to be with him and my three children stayed in Kansas with their father. Long story, short version. They begged me to move closer to them so 4 years ago we moved to Eastern Kansas (more trees). But neither of us like it much and dream of just getting an RV and traveling.

I love Squidoo and how it lets me exercise my creativity. I find I like it better than writing straight articles although I have a few on Associated Content. I like that we can go in and change things we don't like or update it with new info. And it definitely lets you show your own personality.

I work full time so my Squidoo time is very small. Plus I take a very long time to build a lens. So I don't even think about being a Giant yet. The joy of creating is enough for me (although I am pouting because I can't have the page break module yet.

Senior Squids was my favorite place to hang out, so I'm glad we are still together.

This is Sherry @ Paperfacets on Squidoo. I am 62 and loving it. I am retired and have time to do whatever I want. I became a Giant Sept. 2009 and working slowly to 100 Club. I want to get there I am just not in a hurry.

Some days I do not Squidoo but it is one of my most important things to do so I will be here to keep up with what everyone is doing. Thanks, Linda for the work you have done.

This is a lens I finished Monday on Memorial Day.

I am Christine, a wife, mother, grandmother. I have ‘lived in interesting times’ as the Chinese blessing wishes. A 1945 model, I class myself as being a member of the ‘baby boomer’ generation – although some disagree, throughout school years, ours were always the largest classes in history.....what can I say?
It’s really something to see the old black Imperial typewriter I learnt to love/hate in High School, is now in many museums (do they need an antique operator, to complete the scene?). Who would have thought I would be here operating a computer and coping with the internet and so many other technological wonders, in 2010? It’s a mystery.....
But back to the ‘interesting times’ – well – Secretary; Casual relieving Officeperson; apprentice farmer’s new wife/shearers’ cook/general dogsbody; dairy farmer’s partner & general dogsbody; adoptive mother of 3 ‘special needs’ kids; Lifeline telephone counsellor; ‘wannabee’ writer TAFE course ‘external’ student (twice); palliative care trainee and then practitioner; community care trainee and then careworker (helping to keep aged persons in their own homes, as long as possible); ‘right hand’ of my beloved mother and mother-in-law in their last years; ALWAYS a craftperson throughout everything else; trying many and varied ways to sell my craftwork – markets, online ‘shops’ - and now at last, here at Squidoo, promoting some skills and pursuing my beloved writing in a way I had never dreamed of – and loving it more than words can say.
How could I have written this much and not have mentioned that I am a reader extraordinaire, an animal lover, a music lover, a nature lover (as in getting lost in cloud formations, amazing seascapes, sunsets – and becoming ‘teary’ over any or all of these – check out the marshmallow interior!).
And that I live in an old stone farmhouse (circa 1878) - filled with antiques (many inherited from up to three generations ago- and many treasures handmade by my mother and myself) – all this on 10 acres of land, varying numbers of beef cattle and hens and one darling dog, a 10 year old Mercedes Benz as our beloved ‘baby’ – and we two ‘dinosaurs’ to appreciate the fruits of our labours.
In short, I love this world of ours (not always the sides of human nature we observe all around us) – and despite all odds, I believe in US – especially what we ‘Seniors’ (whoever and wherever we are) can contribute. Long may our love and honesty and integrity live.

Hi Everyone!!! ... Carol, Diane, Sherry and Christine!!! Thanks to Christine's recent comment about not responding to the intro, I realized there are comments here I never saw... so I put a "recent comments" section in the sidebar so hopefully we won't miss them in the future.

good luck with the sale and the move

Hi my name is Ann, I'm a 58 year old Scot living in Yorkshire England, though I long to get back to Scotland.
What else? I'm a retired nurse and midwife (a different thing in the UK than in America), as a mature student I graduated with honours from the University of St Andrews and this being the fourth top rated university in Britain I am very proud of my achievement. Sorry. I've had a chequered life, travelling all over the world with my now ex-husband. I've taught Zambian children to speak English with a Scottish accent, I've been a librarian in Dubai and a tour guide in Japan and a writer everywhere.
I write in spurts so apologise if sometimes I am here and sometimes I am not, I do my best. I have mild bipolar disease which is my excuse and I am sticking to it.
My latest love is photography and I am just learning to combine writing and photography and producing storybooks - a bit like this lens

must get on, so much to read and see and do
huggles around the world.

I was so delighted to find this group! I was born in 1950 in Seattle and have lived in the Seattle area my entire life. I love to travel, camp, hike, watch nature, garden, sports, cooking, hanging out with friends and family and animals (especially my dogs). I work full time for a non-profit cancer research organization and have a couple of home businesses that I've been building for a few years to provide some additional income to transition into retirement within the next 2-3 years.

I don't have as much time for Squidoo as I would like, but thoroughly enjoy reading other people's lenses and creating my own. It also still takes me quite a while to create each lens, so I'm in the slow lane on the highway to Giant Squid.

Ann and Vicki

So glad to have you here on Senior Squids. I know you will enjoy this group. We learn so much from each other and have fun too! Now I'm off to check out each of your lenses.

Look forward to hearing more from you.
